Equipped with sacred items—including sand, a white hen, a palm nut, and a black cat for companionship—Obatala descended from the heavens. He poured sand on the water below, and the white hen spread it to create land. Obatala then planted the palm nut, bringing vegetation to life. As he molded the first humans from clay, he drank palm wine, causing some imperfections in his creations.
